Welcome to the Headhunters’ New Camp

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

According to the Sky Shadows’ meager knowledge of their lands’ other inhabitants, the Headhunters are scattered and enigmatic, little more than feral pests, savage scavengers.   Recently, though, unbeknownst to the Sky Shadows, things have changed.  A chief has arisen from the motley rabble.  And with this new leadership a new tribe is born.

Is it possible the leadership of this Chief has given the Headhunters a path to a civilization of their own – a civilization to be built from the wreckage of conquered and pulverized tribes?

Outside the Sky Shadows Camp…frolicking among the ruins…

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

How would life change for the average person if they knew for a fact they would not survive to see their children grow up, or see their grandchildren at all?   This is the key dilemma for the Sky Shadow tribe in general and Fallingstar in particular in Tribes: The Dog Years, the new color comic book series from Soulcraft Comics.

Sky Shadow Chief Hut

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

From the days of their first Chief, LightningRider, who brought the tribe their founding myth, the Sky Shadows have been led by Chiefs who earn their station by their lineage. They rule over a village “empire” with each stage of life having its own house. Because of their limited years and the virtual certainty of their lifespan, the Sky Shadows are obsessed with time.  In their village are such structures as the “mothering tent” where children are taught to walk and speak, and the “Chief’s Hut” where a trinity of “elders” including the Chief, the Medicine Man and the First Warrior meet to discuss tribal business.  There is also a “Death House,” which serves as a primitive hospital and shrine.

Stay tuned for TRIBES: THE DOG YEARS, a new color comic book, coming soon on Soulcraftcomics.com.

The Sky Shadow Camp

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

For a people reeling from the loss of one civilization, building a new culture has its own challenges. Of all the scattered bands of humanity in North America, the Sky Shadow Tribe of the Pacific Northwest may be one of the few that is succeeding.

The Sky Shadow village is an obvious target for the maurading Headhunters that compete with Sundog, Fallingstar and Rockjumper for the resources of their home.  Despite their plight, the Sky Shadows either believe or expect redemption, as everything about their tribe is a symbol of fearful survival.

The Ghosts of Human Industry

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

For a visitor to the land of the Sky Shadows, it might be fair, even accurate, to refer to thousands of edifices such as this oil rig as ghosts.

It was not necessarily the loss of technology and its benefits that led to the current state of humanity, and it wasn’t even necessarily the advent of the nano-virus that plagues people like Sundog, Fallingstar and Rockjumper in Tribes: The Dog Years, the new color comic book series from Soulcraft Comics.   It was the speed with which human civilization, once deprived of various technologies, collapsed.

Freed from its conflict with short-term industry, the environment, both plants and animals, reasserted itself with a vengeance.  It is through this haunted landscape that Dr. Irving Adams must lead a desperate expedition to locate and activate a machine so small that it can hide behind an amoeba. It may be the last surviving remnant of human scientific advancement, and for the sake of the Sky Shadows and Dr. Adams, they hope it is not a ghost.

Rockjumper of the Sky Shadows

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

The tribe of Sundog, Fallingstar and Rockjumper is ruled by a Chief and two advisors: the Medicine Man and the First Warrior, in Tribes: The Dog Years, the new color graphic fiction/comic book series from Soulcraft Comics.

As the story opens, the reigning Chief, Deerslayer, is in failing health, and it will soon fall to Rockjumper to assume the leadership role of the Sky Shadows, a role he has observed as First Warrior and the leader of many hunting parties.

But there are doubts that the heir apparent to Deerslayer’s rule is ready for his responsibilities. Rockjumper seems to be very rigid in his adherence to the “Sky Shadow Way,” the central warrior code that holds the tribe together and forms the heroic myth by which hunters are trained and their success is measured.

These doubts are inflamed when Sundog begins to chafe at Rockjumper’s ruthlessness, and the stage is set for an eventual showdown between the voices of the future and those of the past.

Fallingstar’s Idealistic Fight

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

“I am not a mother yet. I want to fight.”

Fallingstar utters these words to justify participating in the defense of the Sky Shadows against an enemy attack.

It is Fallingstar who seizes upon Dr. Adams’ description of a future where kids can actually know their grandparents. His dream seed sprouts in her mind. And she decides to leave everything behind – her future husband, the Sky Shadows, everything – to try to forge a new future for herself.  Though she defies expectations of her role in the Sky Shadows tribe, she carries her maternal idealism to the battlefield to fight for the future of the entire human race.

Will she succeed?  Will her strength help humanity secure its future?

The Central Myth of the Sky Shadow tribe

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Sky Shadow.   It is a mysterious name, and has an even more mysterious origin in the world of Tribes: The Dog Years, the new full color series from Soulcraft Comics.

For a tribe of hunters, the idea of being the hunted was almost an alien concept.  Yet for LightningRider, the first Chief and founder of the Sky Shadow mythos, his strength in escaping the deadly claws of a great “night cat” was enough to transform the hunted, the scattered and the powerless into a culture of survival.

The totem LightningRider salvaged gave the Sky Shadows their identity.  The mark of the first Chief is carried grimly by hunter and warrior alike as the small band of courageous tribespeople makes their way through a troubled history.

The symbol of the Sky Shadow is a herald to the other scattered remnants of humanity. On the night LightningRider survived, he and his people became the Sky Shadows.
