SOULCRAFT COMICS, an independent comics production company.
Monday, April 11th, 2011SoulCraft Comics projects:
With art by Inaki Miranda and color by Eva de la Cruz, TRIBES: THE DOG YEARS is a full color graphic novel in widescreen, so to speak. With story and script by Michael Geszel and Peter Spinetta, was published by IDW on June 29, 2010. The iPad book app was released in January 2011 and is available here: http://itunes.com/apps/tribesthedogyears
Michael Geszel and Peter Spinetta are at work on the second TRIBES volume, which will include flashbacks to a storyline glimpsed in flashback in TRIBES The Dog Years; it takes place in 2038 when the nano-virus hits the population and shortens the human lifespan to 21 years; based in Los Angeles, the story focuses on the rise of an unlikely leader amidst the turf battles of the “Hollywood Kid Wars.” The main thrust of TRIBES VOLUME 2 concerns Sundog, Fallingstar, Skunktail (Keylock 822) and the Omega Tribe’s quest to reach Solacia in the Gulf of Mexico.
In addition to TRIBES, SoulCraft is working on new projects, including SoulCraft’s next comic project VINES of TIKAL. SoulCraft is in discussions with TRIBES: THE DOG YEARS artist Inaki Miranda (and colorist Eva de la Cruz) about returning for the VINES project.
SoulCraft Comics is a story&comics production outfit that makes distribution deals on a project by project basis.

TWO HUNDRED years later the remnants of humanity survive amidst the junkyard ruins of the techno-industrial age.
One day everything changes for Sundog of the Sky Shadows tribe. Is there new hope for longer life? Can the virus be “fixed” with the help of an “Ancient” from a city under the sea?”

FORBIDDEN PLANET review…
Tuesday, October 26th, 2010Wow, a terrific review from Forbidden Planet: “The first thing you notice about TRIBES: The Dog Years, a new 200-page sci-fi graphic novel produced by SoulCraft Media, is that there really isn’t anything else out there like it. The 11” by 8” widescreen pages boast eye-candy spreads with exquisite art by Inaki Miranda…a cinematic comic of the kind many aspire to produce, yet very few achieve…The story is a worthy addition to the well-trodden post-apocalyptic genre, and an epic mash up of Lord of the Flies, Logan’s Run, Mad Max / Road Warrior, Walter Hill’s gang fable The Warriors and Lord of the Rings.”

It’s a timeless tale that would sit quite comfortably alongside the greatest works of science fiction and fantasy, if given the chance to reach a broader audience by way of film and television.”

Headhunter Chief
Saturday, October 18th, 2008Sky Shadows medicine man and senior oracle Signreader knows what troubles the tribe – its growing belief that the Headhunters, a feral and chaotic enemy, are organizing themselves for an unknown purpose.
Throughout the first volume of Tribes: The Dog Years, the new color comic book series from SoulCraftComics.com, readers will notice that the Headhunters are not only using camouflage, but using it skillfully enough to gather vital information about the Sky Shadows. They will surely threaten not only the survival of the Sky Shadow tribe, but also the future of humanity, for it is the Sky Shadows that hold Dr. Irving Adams prisoner, and Dr. Adams is perhaps the only man on earth who understands the mysterious plague that shortens the human lifespan to 21 years well enough to concoct a cure.
If the Headhunters are organizing themselves, what is their purpose? Is it possible the Headhunters know something about the Sky Shadows’ new quest? Could they thwart Dr. Adams plans, and if so, are they doing it purposefully?
If the Headhunters are successful, none of these questions may ever be answered.
The Sky Shadow Camp
Monday, September 22nd, 2008The Sky Shadow village is an obvious target for the maurading Headhunters that compete with Sundog, Fallingstar and Rockjumper for the resources of their home. Despite their plight, the Sky Shadows either believe or expect redemption, as everything about their tribe is a symbol of fearful survival.
Tribes: The Dog Years is coming soon to Soulcraftcomics.com!
Rockjumper of the Sky Shadows
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008The tribe of Sundog, Fallingstar and Rockjumper is ruled by a Chief and two advisors: the Medicine Man and the First Warrior, in Tribes: The Dog Years, the new color graphic fiction/comic book series from Soulcraft Comics.
As the story opens, the reigning Chief, Deerslayer, is in failing health, and it will soon fall to Rockjumper to assume the leadership role of the Sky Shadows, a role he has observed as First Warrior and the leader of many hunting parties.
But there are doubts that the heir apparent to Deerslayer’s rule is ready for his responsibilities. Rockjumper seems to be very rigid in his adherence to the “Sky Shadow Way,” the central warrior code that holds the tribe together and forms the heroic myth by which hunters are trained and their success is measured.
These doubts are inflamed when Sundog begins to chafe at Rockjumper’s ruthlessness, and the stage is set for an eventual showdown between the voices of the future and those of the past.
Fallingstar’s Idealistic Fight
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008“I am not a mother yet. I want to fight.”
Fallingstar utters these words to justify participating in the defense of the Sky Shadows against an enemy attack.
It is Fallingstar who seizes upon Dr. Adams’ description of a future where kids can actually know their grandparents. His dream seed sprouts in her mind. And she decides to leave everything behind – her future husband, the Sky Shadows, everything – to try to forge a new future for herself. Though she defies expectations of her role in the Sky Shadows tribe, she carries her maternal idealism to the battlefield to fight for the future of the entire human race.
Will she succeed? Will her strength help humanity secure its future?
Find out in Tribes: The Dog Years, the new color comic book series from Soulcraft Comics.
Fallingstar of the Sky Shadows
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008FALLINGSTAR in Tribes: The Dog Years, the new color graphic fiction series from Soulcraft Comics:
For the Sky Shadow tribe, life consists of a series of tough choices between absolute necessities. Survival is paramount; everyone has a role to play in a tightly knit tribal system. But for Fallingstar, being chosen as the future wife of a Chief, somehow does not feel right. What is her true destiny? Why does she yearn for more, beyond her role.
She yearns to become more than is expected of her. Does she dedicate her life to her duty, or does she take another path? Can a young woman determine her people’s priorities while also avoiding her role as one of their leaders? Will her determination endanger her and her people’s future? But there is no time to ponder. In the world of Tribes: The Dog Years, humans live to only twenty-one years of age. Fallingstar must act – now!
And so she is inspired by Doctor Irving Adams, the seemingly immortal scientist who has apparently lived nearly three lifetimes, and his tales of a world beyond the limited existence of her isolated and constantly threatened tribe. How has he survived? Is his magic real, as opposed to the nonsense of the Sky Shadows’ medicine man, Signeader. Dr. Adams seeds the dream that one day she might actually see and help raise her grandchildren.
Her influence stirs Sundog, our reluctant hero, to join Adams and his mysterious quest to find the source of the “plague” that robs humans of precious life at the tender age of twenty-one.
Fallingstar, future wife of the Chief of the Sky Shadows, will play a crucial role in the future of humanity.
Sundog
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008“You are not Sky Shadow.” The words are enough to provoke a fight to the death between any two self-respecting members of Sundog’s tribe, yet the turning point in this young hunter’s life is when his own chief utters the words “I am not Sky Shadow.” Sundog is a central character in Tribes: The Dog Years, the new graphic fiction series from Soulcraft Comics.
His early days are spent honing his skill, speed and instinct, but as he reaches an age where he can challenge his peers for leadership and privilege, he finds that his courage may diverge from that of his chief.
More than any other character, Sundog carries with him the weight of almost an entire civilization, if one tribe can be called that. If Doctor Irving Adams, the immortal, is successful in his search, Sundog’s strength may change the future of the entire human race.
Without Sundog’s support, Doctor Adams may never get the chance to follow his “magic” to what he believes may be the key to ending humanity’s plague. Is it his destiny to blaze a path for humanity? Will a new tribe – a Tribe of the Quest – be borne of the ragtag remnants of the defeated, the lost, the aimless? Will Sundog, a humble hunter in the Sky Shadows, be reborn as a new leader?
Only time and experience will tell. For Sundog will travel thousands of miles, and his journey will be full of fantastic discoveries and mortal dangers in Tribes: The Dog Years, coming soon from SoulCraft Comics.
